"Linguistic Tools for Knowledge Discovery," Montague Institute Review, March 2004. The conceptual gaps between subject and functional boundaries are some of the best sources of innovation. Yet for a variety of reasons — managerial, technical, and editorial — it's often difficult to exploit them. In this article we use an example from our own experience to show how linguistic tools such as thesauri, glossaries, and navigation schemes can promote knowledge discovery by exposing potential linkages between seemingly unrelated subjects.
